by Princess Rhien Denisse P. Dammit, Political Science Society Manifesto

In collaboration with International Model UN awardee and Political Science instructor, Mr. Franklin Macarayo, the Political Science Society held a Parliamentary Training that introduced the political science students to the structure and importance of parliamentary procedures at the University of the Cordilleras’ Auditorium on October 9, 2024. The event started with the reading of the house rules, setting a formal and disciplined tone.

Mr. Franklin Macarayo took the floor as the event’s keynote speaker. His presentation focused on the important aspects related to parliamentary meetings, starting with the basics: “What is a meeting?

The mock Parliamentary meeting was the highlight of the event, where the students practiced the parliamentary procedures- the process of asking questions and laying a suggestion. Hosted by the executive committee, appropriate language and behavior for parliamentary settings were demonstrated, giving the students a hands-on experience of a formal meeting.

“It was fun and interesting training. I gained a lot of new information and witnessed a very interesting way of conducting a meeting,” said Cedric Farro, a first-year Political Science student. He added, “I would like to have another session because I still have a lot of questions and I am having trouble internalizing the whole process.”

The training provided the students valuable knowledge, and it sharpened their skills and understanding of parliamentary meetings which will be essential for future assemblies. With this knowledge, students can actively participate and share their thoughts and opinions, leading to a more proper decision-making.
