On June 3, 2025, the second batch of third-year Political Science interns from the University of the Cordilleras visited 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫, where they gained valuable insights into the city’s advanced urban management systems.

The visit introduced the interns to the key components of Baguio’s Smart City initiatives. Among the highlights was the city’s use of 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐬, designed to provide rapid and accurate updates—particularly critical during natural disasters. The command center also actively monitors 𝐟𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐞-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬, demonstrating Baguio’s proactive stance on disaster preparedness and environmental safety.

Security and emergency response were emphasized during the tour. With the full implementation of the 𝟗𝟏𝟏 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, the center now coordinates real-time responses with local police through 𝐯𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞. Additionally, 𝐂𝐂𝐓𝐕 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 have been strategically installed in high-traffic and vulnerable areas to enhance public safety.

The Smart City team also outlined their vision for future improvements, which include developing more 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡-𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Baguio’s residents. These efforts reflect the city’s dedication to creating a 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞, 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 through the effective use of technology.
